A letter to “SOME” Indian people

A letter to “SOME” Indian people

Dear Indian people,

In some way or the other, our country is still backward. It is all because of the weird customs that some of you blindly believe and practice it even today. We are in the 21st century and how can people do such unwanted practices?

Practices like Sati and child marriage is still being done in some parts of India. How can you deny a person ‘s right to live just for the sake of custom? So what if the woman becomes a widow, whys do she need to be burned alive with her husband? She has got all the rights to live and to be happy. How can even one think of doing child marriage where the child doesn’t even know what is marriage. It is such a shame to our country.

Our country is filled with various culture, different language, different tradition etc and still, our people are still backward by thoughts. There are even weirder practices which I haven’t heard of or I can say which I haven’t heard of done by people of today. How can one marry an off a girl to some animal just for the sake of exorcising the ghost from her body?

The next one is marriage with a tree. Is girl any toy to be played with? If there is any discomfort or disharmony between the spouses, rituals should be done or by talking to each other the issue must be must and not by marrying her to a tree. Marriage is a sacred thing and not a thing to be tampered with.

The next one is baby tossing. Parents throw their babies off from the top of the 50-foot tower. The babies are caught by other villagers on the ground in a sheet. The parents believe that the practice will give their children long and healthy lives. How can any parents do such a ritual for the baby’s long and healthy life?

How can I forget to mention the main customs?  Dowry giving and female infanticide. These two customs have brought our country great shame. How many parents are committing suicide and how many women are being killed in the name of Dowry? How many girl children are being killed just because they are girls? Why? Just because she is a girl? She is also equal to boys.

If I continue talking about our weird customs then there won’t be any end for this letter. All I can say is that “People, Be sensible!” just come out of all the odd customs and see how beautiful and great our country can be. “Live and let live”.

Yours,

Agitated Indian girl
