Taoism facts and beliefs

There are thousands of beliefs and religious practices or traditions being followed in the whole world, which is almost uncountable. Here I am going to through some lights a Chinese belief which is called as “TAOISM”.
It is also know as DAO which means way, path or road of life. There is a saying in daoism that is-
“A way that can be the Way, is not the usual way and a name that can be a name, is an unusual name.”
It has always been China’s main religion that colors all the others and it’s the oldest religion of China. It is a system of belief, attitudes and practices set towards the service and living to a person’s own nature.
There are many facts and beliefs of Taoism some of them are as follows –

1- Afterlife
One of the taoist once said that why worry about life and death since they are each other’s companion. Death is simply transformation from being to non being. So its is advised neither fear death nor desire it, because life and death are two aspects of reality.

2- Chi-
This word actually means air or to breathe but according to belief it means flow of life or energy, which is a separate force from physical world. It is believed to be the root for human body, essential to maintain health and long life. Breath control is considered especially fundamental to balancing the levels of Ch’i in one’s body. There is normal amount of chi in everyone’s life to maintain balance and harmony.

3- Immortals-
Taoists worship the Eight Immortals. They are the emblem of effortless existence of physical freedom. They are ageless, eat nothing but air, drink nothing but dew, and enjoy the power of flight. They are symbolically considered as good fortune and eight conditions of life.

4- Meaning of life-
Living life with natural course of things. Paying attention to one’s body through diet, exercise, peace of mind, circulating its power deliberately to all parts of the body, exploring alchemy with the goal of finding peace and harmony.

5- Tao
Tao is the mysterious natural order of the universe. It means a way of life. Beginning of heaven and earth. Toa has no characteristics still it has a meaning of it own as it contains within itself all potential characteristics. It includes all the forces refered as yin and yang. Yin is associated with darkness, femininity, passivity and water, while yang is light, masculinity, activity and air.

6- Taoism pantheism –
The belief in all gods. The belief that the Universe is in some sense divine and should be revered. The spiritual beings i.e. Immortals are worshipped. These are youth, age, poverty, wealth, high rank, common people, feminine and masculine, the eigjt conditions of life.
7- Daozang-
It is the compilation of whole work of taoism, published on the request of emperor. Includes all the commentaries and expositions of the various masters from the original teachings found in the Tao Te Ching and Zhuangzi. It consists of 1400 texts. First daozang was published before 748 A.D.
8- Ethics and propriety –
Both ethics and propriety are practiced differently in Taoism. It looks after actions through non actions. It also focuses on the spontaneity, simplicity and naturalness.

The focus of Taoism is the individual in nature rather than the individual in society. It holds that the goal of life for each individual is to find one’s own personal adjustment to the rhythm of the natural (and supernatural) world and to follow the Way (dao) of the universe.
Nowadays only few people follow Taoism. The religion says people should follow nature and the flow of life. Taoism has a part to play in the today’s world. Its concept may be old, but it can offer a new outlook for humanity.
