What is there to look forward in this movie :
It is an Indian courtroom drama. A women centric movie, about their rights and dignity. It focuses on the lives of women who live their lives dealing with harsh society and thorny day-to-day issues, to which the young women in the world can relate with.
This movie has successfully portrayed the feudal mindset of milieu with sense of male entitlement. It tells more than it says.
The movie unveils with Rajveer(Angad Bedi) being taken to hospital as he is profusely bleeding from an injury to his forehead, but is treated. Elsewhere the three girls Meenal Arora (Taapsee Pannu), Falak Ali(Kirti Kulhari) and Andrea Tariang(Andrea Tariang)
looked disoriented when they reach their apartment and it is palpable that they have something to do with this incident. Whatever happened between them becomes secondary to Rajveer’s ego so he tried everything to wreck havoc in the lives of these three women- one of whom is responsible for his bandaged head. When these women seek legal resources these men tried and turn the table and accuse the women of being sex workers, which according to them is the best way to silence the courageous woman who has the strength to ask question. Then comes the retired lawyer Deepak Sehgal(Amitabh Bachchan) and bills himself as their defence attorney , to help them to rise from their predicament.
There is one dialogue which Mr. Bachchan has said as part of his closing argument, which is
like icing on the cake- ” ‘No’ is not a word but an entire sentence” . It simply means go away and don’t bother me. The length of dress doesn’t describe the character of women and is not the reason of their pleading but the small thinking of people.
It has also revealed the status of police in some places. And it is the harsh reality that the curator themself sometimes is the villain. As narrated in one of the scene, the female cop’s sheepish smile, when her supposed presence at police station is negated by a photograph that shows her being at a wedding the very same time.
Amitabh Bachchan has masterfully played his part of character with this megawatt performance where only his death stare is enough to do the job and then he came up with these dialogues which left a trademark.
Taapsee Pannu has clearly stands out her character, who is a fierce and a strong women. Kirti kulhari is well portrayed as stable and collected of the three, but yes everyone has a “line of control” and breakdown. Everyone has played their part very effectively.
Meanwhile, the title “Pink” is so called to add some girlish gesture. In its best, the film shouts out, forcing us to acknowledge and accept the uncomfortable truths, that are there in the society. It has something to say, something to teach and asking something to change. Gather everyone and go and spread the word as you do so.
