Like The Smell Of The Sea

Like The Smell Of The Sea

Every once in a while, something hits me hard

An old photo, a song, a place or a card

I stand powerless as I let it sneak up to me

An old memory like the smell of the sea.

It takes me long to figure what it is

For there are quite a few things that I miss

Something tells me they are the things that I buried back there

That run up to me and now catch me unaware,

I wonder why instead of leaving them behind

I let them come to the front of my mind

They blind me like the sun too bright

But am still unwilling to let them out of my sight.

Every once is a while, something hits me hard

An old photo, a song, a place or a card

A once locked memory is then unleashed

Binding me as it is freed.

I wait for it to come to me

Like the smell of the sea.

The imaginary is the real I fancy more than anything else.
