I read a lot of science-fiction. Mostly for entertainment purpose, but also because I believe we need to be able to predict our future to see what’s coming and be prepared for it . There have been a lot of science fiction works but the most popular and critically approved are the ones that are based on Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
Now, Automation is just anything that we can do and do with simplicity. Basically, putting all our clothes in the washing machine and pressing just a button to wash them can be considered Automation. Automation is skipping and simplifying steps of a task to make it simpler. Artificial Intelligence on the other hand is a much wider and broader term. If you have ever played a video game, it is basically an A.I. that commands you to do a task. If you do it correctly, it rewards you and if you don’t, it doesn’t. Certain people are prone to get addicted to these rewards given by these games. This kind of control by a machine over a human mind has terrified some popular names in the world of science. People like Stephen Hawking, Neil Degrasse Tyson, etc.
The question that remains to be asked is that should we be happy and accept that it is a part of human evolution or should we put it (AI) in check. And if we do put it on check, how do we do it? By stopping all the computer scientists?
I don’t believe that we need to do that. The future is safe when we work together, not just with each other, but with the ecosystem as a whole. We need to combine our intelligence and strength with the cyber world. Imagine living like an AI system in a computer for billions of years i.e. all your thoughts and memories will be saved in the memory storage of the device. We can evolve into a much more powerful biologically impossible race known as Cyberhumans. Technology is scary and even scarier is the way the media portrays it. We shouldn’t be scared of our future. We should adapt to change : Like we always have to survive .
