Is feminism overrated in India?

India is known as a liberal country. India also has a patriarchal society and we do not let the idea of ‘gender indiscrimination’ come up. Yes, India is a male dominant country. Females, now, are given their importance but the picture isn’t perfect yet.
When it comes to overrating feminism, I deny it. Yes surely feminism has given importance lately but ‘overrated’ is definitely not the word. There are still few cracks to be filled.
In India, women are highly respected and at the same time disrespected on baseless grounds. They are considered weak and feeble which gives rise to women empowerment programmes, various safety programmes for women, etc. This does not mean women are given undue importance, but that they must get their rights. These rights may involve educational, social, etc., right to vote, own a property and many more.
Special reservations, special facilities, special safety measures are all an idea to motivate women to come out and see the world; which they will surely cope up with. Now, one would say that women have gotten enough opportunities now and that they participate in every fields as men do. But no, it is just one side that we see. In the distant villages where education and hence this ideology hasn’t yet reached, a woman still gets beaten by her inebriated husband, a girl is still killed-for being a girl, a female is abused every now and then; abused sounds very simple in front of the agony of such Indian females.
Feminism is a concept flourishing in India so let it clean all the filth against females. Infact one must encourage such cause and let every female in India enjoy her rights as freely as a man does and we’ll witness a more strong and more prosperous nation’s beginning.
