When I was a kid my grandma used to tell me bed time stories everyday. If not grandma, my mother used to recite poems and short stories to me.
What excited me the most were stories about life after death.
Once my Grandma told me that its our body that dies but our souls remain in this world. Its our body that burns in the grave and not our souls.
In Hindu families, last rights are done for the soul that has passed away. It is believed that the rituals performed at that time are very important for the soul to depart from the body and reach where it is supposed to reach.
I have heard that after the souls depart from the body, they do not belong to anyone after that. No longer are they someone’s father, mother , sister, brother or anyone.
They have no identity until they enter some other body that gives identity to them.
Isn’t the afterlife interesting?
