Ever wondered, how does Meaww works? Here it is- When a user on Facebook plays one of these, the app is said to not only scan their Facebook posts and store the data but also subtlety require them to reveal many personal facts about themselves. That personal data includes name, profile picture, age, sex, birthday, posts on your timeline, home town, education and everything that has ever been liked. The app also requests access to all of users’ friends list, email address, timeline posts and photos. The quizzes themselves too provide a large amount of data, security experts warn. According to the Maw’s terms and conditions, it can sale to third- parties such as advertisers for providing results of the quizzes. There is simply no way to know where it ends up and what it will end up being used for. Meaww could sell the data to an advertiser — or, more likely, multiple advertisers — who could in turn sell it on to another company.

The company washes its hands of any responsibility for how personal data is handled. Anything could happen… it’s all out of Meaww’s control since user itself allows Meaww to access data in spite of warning. Meaww is not only the viral site on Facebook; there are similar sites like Quizrocket.com, Chektom.com, Frapifyme.com, Funquizcards, etc.  and it very easy to create one like it.

The best way a user can protect themselves is to avoid online quizzes that require Facebook authentication altogether. So stay far from these sites and do update your privacy settings on social media. Happy reading.
