We have all felt saddened at some point of time in our lives. Sometimes life gets too much and you just wish you could break free of all the barriers, thoughts, responsibilities and so on….that sometimes it triggers negative feelings in us. This is normal, but if this becomes a constant feeling, then you should seek help from your near and dear ones and don’t feel shy, or ashamed because it may be a symptom of depression.
What is Depression? How is it caused? What are the common symptoms of depression? These are frequently questions asked but do people actually know what depression is?
No, people think depression is sadness. People think depression is crying. People think depression is dressing in black. But people are wrong. Sometimes trhey often confuse it with their situation and term it as “depression.” Depression is the constant feeling of being numb. Being numb to emotions, being numb to life. You wake up in the morning just to go back to bed again.
It is an important topic that is not only relevant for the diagnosis and treatment of depression, but also for theories.
In laymen’s terms, “Depression is a state of low mood that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feelings, and sense of well-being.”
People with a depressed mood may be notably sad, anxious, or empty; they may also feel hopeless, helpless, dejected, or worthless and also lose interest in activities that they once considered pleasurable or otherwise experience either a loss of appetite or overeating. They also experience problems like concentrating, remembering general facts or details or if we take it to extreme level, some people also gets suicidal thoughts and they even tries to attempt it.
Depression is a living hell, a person experiences. He bottles up his/ her feelings, thoughts.
“It feels like everyone else is moving on with their lives while I am stuck here, in this hole that I can’t climb out of.”
You no longer remain yourself because you are possessed with negative feelings, sadness and all. You don’t wanna continue because you know , you are not winning.
“Every thought is a battle. Every breath is a war, and I don’t think I’m winning anymore.”
To fight depressed mood, we must go against our present feelings, since few people feel like putting out the energy because it takes a lot more of courage, patience, time, energy, your will power to be strong and be back to normal.
I know this feeling because “I have also experienced depression and anxiety attack few months back but then I took medical help as well as help from my friends and family members. My friends were also supportive and were there for me because they knew my condition and they always took their time to listen to my problems and give me inspiration and encouraged me.”
I want that people should not confuse their situation with depression and those who are suffering it should take help from their loved ones and get medical help/advice. Your life is not a game that you don’t wanna continue it. One should put all his/her efforts to be back to normal and share things with your friends or family, so they could help you because your life is very much precious.
And lastly, you’ll feel like:
“I miss me. The old me, the happy me, the bright me, the smiling me, the laughing me, the gone me.”
“I wanted to talk about it. Damn it. I wanted to scream. I wanted to yell. I wanted to shout about it. But all I could was whisper “I’m fine.”
But it’s fine , it’s just totally fine because these are normal things. Even I have also thought like this when I was in that situation. But I continued to live , live happily.

“And Once you choose hope, anything is possible, just have some patience.”
