The city that never sleeps.

The city that never sleeps.

The city never sleeps, The city that made million dreams turn into reality, Obviously the town also known for the bollywood, Mumbai, also called ‘Amchi Mumbai’. I have been to this town five times by now, but never explored the city. I have had always been there just for a purpose, either exams or meeting to relatives with my parents. As a child, I had heard alot about most of the bollywood actors staying in Mumbai. I really wanted to feel the happiness watching the city that has witnessed almost everything ranging from bomb blast to terror attack, yet it has stood as heart of Maharashtra and India. My plan to Mumbai came into execution when my friend had to go there for exams and she wanted me to accompany her till there. So was my heart flattering, as did a visit to the city will be with the one, about whom I always think about, twenty four seven. Who wouldn’t love going with the person you love, admire and yes, if she is in need I shall run on mars too, then Mumbai was still a city. We went through the State Transport bus, arrived at ‘Dadar station’, the devastating sound that bus made allowed me to keep my eyes open at night by not sleeping obviously. Thanks to my dad, he gave me enough money that a day in this town wouldn’t go on hungry stomach. Yes, Did I tell you, I am quite passionate about the different foods, well this time, my tongue had to forget all the taste buds and realise it was time to fill an empty stomach which was growling for food for almost five hell of hours. We arrived at ‘Dadar’, first step in the city, being a Punekar, one might never notice, auto rickshaw or cabs easily available at night, but the thing here was complete different, I saw number of taxes awaiting to board the passengers. As it was 3 am already, we decided to take a stop at the street of dadar. This was probably the first time that I realised life isn’t only about the needs to fulfill, I was sleepy, but I had no option where to sleep, I realised there aren’t any option left than the place where we resided, it was the passage in front of a bank. This was the first time, I realised what my life would be without my parents. All our life, we keep complaining about the things we don’t get, we make our parents realise of not being capable enough to fulfil unrequired needs even though they do an important thing, feed us. When life puts you at that end where you have no option left but to accept the given thing, you realise that life is meant to enjoy and accept whatever given. I slept at the given place, and when I woke up, thanks to my friend, who offered to go for a breakfast at the nearby tea stall, did I tell you that there are more number of tea stall at night than the taxes, but the menu is more than limited, one might get tea, cigarette incase you are a smoker and ‘Masal dosa’ or ‘Idli’ for quenching hunger. I was delighted that the hunger which  lasted for almost 5 hours will be quenched. We ate and we waited at the same place again, exams were to happen at 9 am. We took a taxi and followed the destination. We reached there at 8 am, much time before the exam. It was 9 am she went to the exam hall, one thought struck my brain, how I am going to survive the longest hours without doing any task, which would also last five hours, wait did I tell you about her? She was one of the most confused, angriest personality I’ve had ever met, yet she was beautiful, and wonderful person at heart, she was much crystal clear on her relation with me. She was aspiring Indian Army candidate. This was her dream and for her dream I shall scale down any heights. I couldn’t spend night kissing or hugging her, but yes I am so delighted to spend a night, which had the little silence, more humour, more laugh and obviously the love talks but in humourous way. That’s how we end up being a couple. As she went for the exams, I realised that I had to bring out the hidden wanderer inside me to hang around in different parts of the place I was waiting. ‘Sion’ was the place. There were just two places to visit,  a ‘Sion fort’ or ‘Kaal killa’. But hanging around on streets, finding a restaurant which has its own different taste along with being economical, that’s how travelogers work. Rather reaching the destination first, I went on the streets of ‘Sion’. Developed a thought that why is it that people call mumbai a ‘alladin ka chirag’? Well, I discovered that, there are number of things  due to which people call it a ‘Wishing well’, you wish for it work on it with your heart on sleeves and I bet Mumbai has its own best way to give you what you wished. Initially, I found only one restaurant worth there, I went for  two ‘Veg frankie’ popularly known as Veg Rolles. The taste happens to be average and cost is economical. Restaurant is named as ‘Sanskar Restro’. As, I went ahead with my journey, I went onto find a fort nearby, called as ‘Sion fort’ as I’d heard about it before too. I went onto climb the fort. The fort was small to scale down, with no surprise you might spot people jogging and exercising there. The fort was built by ‘Shivaji Maharaj’ in his tenure as the first king of Maratha Kingdom, fort was made to store the arsenal required for fighting enemy. I got to know this fact by the dancing group, they had a dream of acquiring a place in the programme, Dance India Dance, and also win it. when I spoke with the leader of the crew, he mentioned that the fort is as clean as any other in mumbai. He said they have had held regular dance practices here, so far and are looking to secure place in DID. When asked about the fort, the guy mentioned “Court is as clean as compared to other forts in and around Mumbai, you might view entire Sion and Chembur area from the toppest point of fort.”, I viewed it too, the city seemed so wonderful and marvellous that I couldn’t take my eyes off it. I could see the ‘Stream of vehicles running down the streets, That’s where you realise in the city like Mumbai, You better run with the flow and survive, or swim against the tide have patience and witness the so called success. When I came down the fort, my thoughts were all about the legacy of ‘Shivaji Mahharaj’. How could this fort be built? What were those engineers made of that made the them build this marvellous structure which has still stood strong even after hundreds of years. Truly invincible. Heading back to college all I could see is the affection for ‘Cricket’. City which gave the master blaster, ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ to the cricket world, so there was no surprise to me watching people play with their all hearts out. As the time was already over, she was going to be coming out of the exam hall anytime soon, I reached the college and saw her waiting for me, Yeah, I could wait all my life for her too! We took a taxi and headed for Chembur station, from there we went for CST station, the station which has witnessed love from all over the country, the world, and had also witnessed the blood bath in terror attacks of 26 /11. So, with a worst surprise, just one train was going to Pune all other were cancelled, which brought me to the conclusion that did the city wanted me to explore it more? Well, one call from my father to come back home today itself was more than exploring anything, I couldn’t afford any beatings on Monday night. So, I took a ticket and headed back home, yes little tears streamed down my cheeks, as the thought of going without her was spinning on my mind. She chose to accompany her friend in Mumbai for more two days. The train was crowded with no place to sit, The mind was jammed with all the thoughts of her, Is she feeling the same I have been feeling? Is she saddened by my leaving? Would she come and hug me and say, “I will miss you”. But not my luck is so sheer. She didn’t. I decided to go way back home. I was more saddened to left this city explored infinitesimally. I wanted to get on the Juhu Beach, Sit at Marine drive and earn calories, satisfy the craving and taste buds at Mahummad ali road, view Bandra. But, My tough luck, my leaving of this city made me supremely sad also leaving her midway was added to my emotional breakdown. But, yes the city will be explored in coming days. The love that was left midway will be surely made. It’s just a matter of time.

Spread the love
