Indian society is one of the oldest societies. It has its own traditions and rituals. But some of them are so old that they do not suit in present time. Time is changing so the customs and traditions should also be modernized. The old customs sometimes create obstacles in the way of progress.
The first social evil is the marriage customs. Child marriage is vanished but not completely. In some under developed villages, child marriages still take place. Next evil is also related to marriage and that is the dowry system. Dowry is known as the love of parents given to the daughter, but some people gets so greedy that they marry only for dowry. And if she fails to bring the dowry, they harass the daughter-in-law and it leads to assaults and bride burning. For this the perpetrator should be punished harshly. There should be no business in form of marriage; it is a social curse.
Next one is the drug and drink addiction. These two are so common now-a-days. This evil is affecting our youngsters too much. They are aware of the ill effects but still they believe that to drink and tale drugs are very cool and fascinating. They do this as a fashion trend. They must avoid it and should educate themselves about the worst effects that are seen long term.
Unemployment is the next evil. Increasing population is giving rise to increasing unemployment. Permanent and seasonal are the two types of unemployment. Permanent unemployment is the one in which person gets too frustrated and forced to commit crimes to fulfill the basic needs. Whereas seasonal unemployment results in expenditure by savings. This lead a family to work at a loss.
There are countless evils in the society that must be vanished. Because these are hunting our societies. Social reforms are urgently needed. Some made efforts but the results have not been so encouraging. Yet! A lot have to be done to the society.
